Surgeons

by Deanna from Nebraska

“Scalpel,” called the surgeon as she races against the clock to save this young man’s life. This is an average day for a surgeon. I don’t have many heroes but surgeons inspire me to be one.

Surgeons work day in and day out to save lives. They work long hours every day. They perform about 1-2 surgeries a day, because some surgeries can be longer than 6 hours.

During the surgery a surgeon must be able to stand a long time and also be very focused. They must be able to handle the blood and gore from people’s organs. Plus surgeons can’t be shaky because they might cut the wrong thing and kill the person.

Some day I hope to be one of these great people. To become a surgeon I’ll be in school for 14 years. One day maybe I will be performing a surgery for you!
