My hero is Terrance Stanley (Terry) Fox. Terry Fox was born on July 28, 1958 in Winnipeg Manitoba and died after falling into a coma June 28, 1981 with family and friends all around him. He is famous because he inspired a country to donate money for cancer research. Terry Fox united the nation for the better of others.

He spent his childhood in B.C. in Port Coquitlam. He was determined to get onto the school basketball team and after a lot of effort he got on the team. This inspired him to become a gym teacher. His mother inspired him to go to Simon Fraser University to study physical education.

But three months after a car crash a pain in his knee finally drove him to go to the hospital. He was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and they had to amputate his leg. Despite these events he made a rapid recovery and was golfing three weeks later.

The night before his cancer surgery an article inspired him to start the Marathon of Hope. He set out to do these things: run across Canada, collect a dollar for every Canadian, and help children with cancer. With the help of a sponsor from the Four Seasons Hotel he was on the road. During his run he was cheered on by millions met several celebrities and made in many of speeches.

This man has inspired the world to run every year to raise money for cancer research. He reminded us of the millions that lose their lives to cancer. He denied all expert advice to stop because he felt he needed to do this for the dying children. Though I would not like to go through what he went through, I admire he was able to do the "impossible" every day.
