Tony Hawk

by Brannon from San Diego

Tony Hawk, a persevering man who has grown from an awkward, scrawny boy who had been bullied by the people he had looked up to, to an iconic man in and outside of the skate world. Tony has earned his famous title for creating some of the most revolutionary and daredevil tricks in skate history, and for changing the lives of many people that skated in his generation. Tony was a skinny, underweight, and hyperactive boy who had tried his best to stay unnoticed by anyone else at his school, especially the people that picked on him, so he tried to find a way to let out his hyperactivity, and help keep his mind off of those bullies, all through riding a skateboard he received from his brother. Soon he had become obsessed with it and started to become skilled at riding it. At the age of thirteen he had joined the most groundbreaking and famous team, the Bones Brigade.

As soon as Tony started to grow in fame and become more popular throughout the skate world he then had also started to get smacked down and made fun of by his own peers and others he had looked up to, all because of the way he looked and skated. Tony shortly fell into a small state of sadness and depression, but Tony wouldn't let these kinds of things upset him too long. He knew that if he had let these things overwhelm him things would start to crumble away from him. So Tony persevered through the negativity of others just by skating, and by doing so he started to win contests and shrug off all the hatred, because even though others had mocked him for the way he did things it didn't matter to him, as long as he had a skateboard underneath his feet he was all good.

In his younger years, Tony Hawk considered the local skatepark his home away from home and skateboarding let him into a tight community, shaping his character and making a different person out of him.
