Terrell Davis

by Travis from Quakertown, New Jersey

The one thing that scares me the most is failing. But while I'm here and while I'm having success early, I'm trying to do everything to stay on this level.

The one thing I look for in a hero is how big of a difference he can make to a losing team. That is exactly what Terrell Davis did. Before Terrell Davis was drafted the Denver Broncos were known as big losers. The Broncos drafted him in 1995 as a 6th round pick 196 overall. At such a low pick he shouldn’t have been anything. Terrell Davis played at Long Beach State for former Redskins coach George Allen. The coach didn’t think Davis was ready to play. The coach never did see Terrell play because Coach Allen died after the 1990 season. He finally played the following season.

He transferred to University of Georgia due to Long Beach State having to cut its team due to budget concerns. At Georgia, Davis was a backup for Garrison Hearst, a leading rusher in college. When Hearst graduated, Davis became top running back, but injuries hurt him in the draft.

Davis turned out to be the yard grinding player that former Bronco quarterback John Elway needed. Terrell led the Broncos to two consecutive Superbowl wins. The rest of his career was ruined by injuries. The first thing I remember seeing when I was young was Terrell Davis. That got me nuts for Terrell Davis. He was the third running back to gain 1,000 yards in seven games. That got his name in the Hall of Fame. Terrell Davis ended his career with a total of 7,607 rushing yards.

The last game Terrell Davis played was a preseason game against the 49ers. The game was played at Invesco Field at Mile High. He only played the first half. The rest of the game Davis sat on the side in his street clothes. The reason Terrell Davis is my hero is because he turned a losing team into a two-time Super Bowl champion.
