Tony Hawk

by Nate from Glenbrook

“I love snowboarding, but I would never want to do it competitively or at a professional level.
Snowboarding is a spawn of skating, and skating is my passion.”

My hero is Tony Hawk. He was born on May 12th, 1968 in San Diego California. He has a mom, Nancy, a Dad Frank, and three siblings, his brother and two sisters. When he was growing up, he had anger issues. Even if he won a competition, he would lock himself in his room thinking he could have done better. Once, after striking out in baseball, he had to be coaxed out of a forest by his dad. Even though he was a sponsored skateboarder at age 12, he was bullied in school. He was tall, skinny, and underweight, which made him a perfect target. He tried not to be noticed in school, and he wasn’t through most of his school years.

Tony Hawk is a hero because he is determined, never gives up, and pushes himself to do better. Skateboarding calmed him down, so he wanted to get better at it. In three years, all that practicing paid off, because he got sponsored. Tony Hawk also has a hero, his dad. Tony always looked up to him and wanted to be like him when he grew up. All heroes face a problem, and Tony Hawk did too. In the 1990’s the skateboarding industry wasn’t doing so well, and Tony Hawk was losing money. So, he made another pro model, (a skateboard with his name on it) which sold a lot so he got more money. The skateboarding industry started doing better, and he was getting back on top.

Tony Hawk makes a difference in millions of kids' lives and also mine. He encourages kids everywhere to start skateboarding. He is a hero because he gives back to skateboarding and gives away skateboards for free to kids. He also donates to charity.

Tony Hawk is one of the many heroes in the world. He makes good choices and inspires children every day. He makes kids want to skate, and once they start they can’t stop, because skateboarding is a game you can’t beat. He may have had anger issues, gotten divorced three times, and busted his front teeth out twice, but he is still a great hero.
