Tim Tebow compared to Odysseus

by Abby from Tehachapi

A hero is somebody who commits an act of remarkable bravery or who has shown an admirable quality such as great courage or strength of character. Although many heroes do have the same traits, some have different, distinct traits. Odysseus in Homer's poem the Odyssey and my personal hero, Tim Tebow are different in some ways, and same in others.

There are many similarities in Odysseus and Tim Tebow. Tim Tebow is a leader because he is the main player on a football team and leads the game. Odysseus is a leader because he is in charge of all the crewmen on his ship. The men on the ship listen to Odysseus and respect him, as do the men on the football team listen to and respect Tebow's decisions. Odysseus believes in the Greek gods by praying to them and listening to what they tell him and his crew to do. After the gods close Odysseus' eyes in order that the crew may kill a certain god's cattle, Odysseus does not turn his back on them, but asks them to forgive his crew for their terrible doings. Tim Tebow respects his God; he prays to Him before every game, follows His will, and does not back down in what he believes in. Tebow is on the field with many non-believers criticizing him for what he believes in; nevertheless he still holds fast to what he believes in. These similarities are in many heroes, but especially in Odysseus the Greek captain and Tim Tebow the football quarterback.
