Uncle Rich

Courage, independence, kindheartedness, fighter, hardworking, resilience.  These are the perfect ingredients to being a wonderful hero in my perspective.  My hero has all of these characteristics and more.  He is an excellent role model for my family and  I hope he will be for you too.  My hero is my Uncle Rich.

My Uncle Rich has been in a terrible accident that is very unfortunate.  When he went out ice skating with buddies he slipped on the ice.  During the fall his helmet fell off his head and he hit his head on the ice.  Everything went black, he had passed out.  People immediately started helping and got ambulances.  He was taken away and lucky for me he was in great hands.  We learned about this incident while on vacation in Hilton Head Island.  In a few months he was able to do some things, but not much.  He was always forgetting everything and those who he loved, including his wife, my Aunt Sharon.

Uncle Rich's sister, my mom, left on the day before my birthday to help out.  This was just as soon as we had gotten back from our vacation.  I was so sad she was leaving but I knew that it was the right thing to do.  

My Uncle Rich has been healing a ton and is just now out of the hospital.  He is back to his old self and only because of all the support my family has given him.  I am so exited for when I get to see him next and I hope he is doing well.

My Uncle has courage because he would not give up during any part of his recovery.  He has independence because as soon as he could do something, he would do it and let no one else help him.  He has kindheartedness because when he was helped or talked to, he would make sure we knew he appreciated it.  He is a fighter because he never gives up and during his operations that was important for him to stay strong.  He is hardworking because before and after the injury he always worked and helped people.  Most of all my Uncle Rich is resilient because before the injury he was himself and also after too.  Now you may understand why I believe my Uncle Rich is a hero.  He can push through anything, even when it may seem impossible.
