My hero is my mom, Valentine Chaleston. My mom was born in Haiti. In Haiti jobs are the same but also different than in the U.S. For example, people sell clothes in front of their house, on the side of the road. They also sell food like that and bags of drinking water. There is not a lot of money in Haiti. School is also different. You have to wear a uniform.
In Haiti we all lived with my Grandmother and Grandfather. My father died when I was a baby. I also have two older sisters. One of my sisters is now twenty and the other one is in 9th grade in high school. My mother worked in the medical field. She took care of people. She does that here in the U.S. too.
We moved to the U.S. before the earthquake. Now we own a house. One reason we moved here is so I could learn to speak English. I can speak now but I am not yet good at it. My mom speaks English better than I do.
My mom is my hero because she is always there for me. She gives me an allowance. She works hard so I can have things, like paying for me to go on school trips. We have things that we never had before like a t.v. and a refrigerator. My grandmother's house has only two rooms and now we have more.
