Wiremu Kingi Brightwell

by Taneroa from Greytown

Long ago my dad, Wiremu, saved my life. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be here. My mum's friend dropped by for a visit and when she left my dog was under her car. I cared enough about my dog so I went to save him.

My Mum's friend just rushed off without stopping to see how I was. We had no phone so we couldn't call anyone and my Mum did not have anything to drive or a license. That lady left us there without any way to get help for me. Luckily my Dad came home from work in his truck so he could rush me to the hospital.

We were at the hospital and everyone was in the waiting room. I needed medication and then they showed us the x-rays. The doctors told me I had a broken leg, and I had to have a cast. I had to use crutches. I did not know how to use them but after a couple of days I got the hang of them.

My dad has long black hair now. He used to work at Firestone but we have just moved to Papawai, Greytown from Upper Hutt. He has four children including me. He is very special to me and my sisters.

I wrote this story because my dad saved me after getting run over by car. Now I'm always with him, other than when I am at school, because if something happens to me, Dad doesn't have to rush and speed over to me all the time. I'll always treasure him and what he did for me.
