Imagine the whole world under Germany, under dictatorship, and speaking German. Not the life we would want. We have many World War Two heroes to thank but this passage is about one person. This essay is about the hero Winston Churchill. Churchill was a World War Two hero who kept England in the war and changed the outcome of the war. He even kept his nation independent even after Germany bombed London. By using great leadership, inspiration, and setting up alliances, he changed the outcome of the war and possibly saved our freedom today.

Churchill came from a heroic past that led him to a life of leadership. Winston Spencer Churchill was born on November 30th 1874 in England. He was on the wealthy side and went to school at St. Georges School and spent his college years at Royal Military College. Churchill was a hero even before the war. Before World War two, Britain fought in another war called the Boer war in South Africa. He sailed there as a newspaper correspondent to write about the war. There, his train was ambushed by Dutch men and he was held hostage and imprisoned. When the guards weren’t looking one day, he jumped the wall and was free. By age 26, he wrote five books about his correspondent career and became a hero to his people. Right after his return, he was ushered into the House of Commons. He stayed in that position for 60 years.

About 50 years later, World War Two began and Germany within months had taken over most of Western Europe and had just taken France. After England declined fighting with Germany, they bombed London. The soldiers began to feel that there was little left to fight for. At the time, Churchill was prime minister of England. He showed England that they had a chance and inspired them to keep fighting for the independence of their country and of the world. The way he inspired the English military was by feeding them courage and confidence by making endless speeches, quotes and propaganda. One of the most famous World War Two speeches that he made to the country just before war with Germany was; ‘ We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills, we shall never surrender.’ He never gave up on his country even though Germany had conquered most of Europe at this point. Churchill was a man of words and could think of the best things to say at the right time to help with any situation. More of his quotes include “Any man who fights against Nazidom will have our aid” and “We have one aim and one purpose. Freedom; from this nothing will turn us- nothing.”

Another way Churchill was a great hero was his great leadership. He made England push against Germany and it became one of the only nations in Europe fighting in the war. He used the skies to his advantage and bombed several naval ships for Germany. Actually, most of the air battles of World War Two were with or against Britain. England became the third biggest fighter or fighting source in World War Two, behind America and Russia. These moves commanded by Churchill`s leadership, led to a turning point during the war. He also was a great representative. He was brave and one of the only individuals that stood the Germans down like John Hancock in the Revolutionary war.

To fight the Nazis, Churchill knew that he would need to unite all rebelling nations together as one. He was the one who allied all other fighting nations. He allied with America and made great friends with FDR, proving to be a major advantage during the war. He also made an alliance with Russia. As America dealt with the Japanese who were fighting with Germany, Russia and England fought Germany. The alliance might be the only reason that we are still speaking English right now. In 1945, Germany surrendered and many other nations joined into a treaty and joined together to make the United Nations which still exists today. Winston Churchill was a hero who drastically changed the outcome of World War Two by providing inspiration, leadership, and allies. He was the prime minister of England and with his inspiration, kept England free throughout the war. With his leadership were the rebel air men or air fighters and bombed German naval ships: and with the alliances that he made, turned the tables on Germany and World War Two.
