The Wright Brothers

by Kris from Arcadia

The Wright Brothers are true heroes. They had a very interesting life, accomplished some heroic deeds and have made me think. The Wrights are my heroes.

The Wright Brothers’ lives were full of discovery and inventions. Wilbur Wright was born on April 16, 1867 in Ohio and Orville four years later in 1871. They started a printing press using a printer that they made themselves. This printer printed 1,000 pieces of paper an hour. Soon, they grew tired of printing and decided to start a bicycle shop. They first fixed them but soon decided to build bicycles. Wilbur died on May 30, 1912 in Dayton, Ohio at the age of 45 because of typhoid fever. Orville died on January 30, 1918 in Dayton, Ohio at the age of 76.

The Wright Brothers accomplished many heroic acts. On December 17, 1903 at Kitty Hawk, Ohio, they flew for 12 seconds. Two years later, the Wright Brothers made an airplane that could fly for 39 minutes, and survive many landings and takeoffs. They soon started making airplanes for the United States Military and for French investors. The Wright Brothers were the first American heroes of the 20th century.

Learning about the Wrights has inspired me to think. Wow! They must have been smart and good with technology. How did they earn enough money to keep building planes? Cool! They became celebrities.

Two great heroes in the World are the Wright Brothers. Learning about their lives and heroic actions has given me much to ponder about.
