YouthCan

YouthCan

My hero is YouthCan, an organization run by the youth that inspires, connects, and educates people throughout the world about environmental issues by using technology. Every April since 1995 a committee run by children coordinates YouthCan which is held at the Museum of Natural History in New York City.

The youth communicates with the attendants through numerous conferences, events, and activities. They share with each other how they are using technology in environmental projects and talk about difficulties in their own communities. Over 1,000 students attend YouthCan which brings youth from around the world to one location to talk about the environment. On April 24th, 2004 YouthCan joined Central Parks Conservancy’s celebration of Earth Day.

YouthCan encourages anyone fascinated in the environment, global communications, and environmental education to participate in the YouthCan meetings or conference calls. YouthCan projects are a series of monthly hikes, global reports, and activities that students create to help preserve and explore the environment. Groups and schools are encouraged to participate in YouthCan by helping plan the future of YouthCan or by joining the planning committee.

I chose YouthCan as my hero because I think that nowadays people are caring much less about the environment and they are creating tons of waste on Earth. People are littering and polluting which is causing global warming. YouthCan does its best to prevent things such as littering and polluting to save our planet
