Wayne Shorter's 'Wild Flower' is rather unique in the sense that it is one of the few jazz waltzes. In 3/4 time, Wayne's harmonic sensibilities really flourish throughout the chordal changes of the tune. Its original album 'Speak No Evil' was a monumental recording in the modal jazz scene. Our rendition focused on taking Wayne's phenomenal writing and pushing it into a new direction. We slowed it from its original speed and turned it into a quasi-ballad. This worked extremely well, and we were pleased with the recording. By exploring the all of the possibilities and avenues of Wayne's fantastic writing, we hope to honor him and bring new, previously unforeseen color to his acclaimed tunes.
