David Livingstone

David Livingstone grew up in Blantyre, Scotland. He was born March 19, 1813. He had two sisters, and five brothers and was the second oldest. His father was a tea salesman and in 1823 David Livingstone worked in a cotton mill. In 1833, David Livingstone was awakened by his spirit. He began to study medicine in Glasgow in 1836. He was accepted by the London Missionary Society for mission study in 1838. In 1840, he received his medical degree and left for South Africa to join Robert Moffat’s Kurman mission.

David Livingstone began trips from Kurman into Africa in 1841. He opened a new mission at Mabotsa in 1843. In 1844, David Livingstone went through a tough experience - a lion attacked him. One of the happiest things that happened to David Livingstone was when he married Mary Moffat in 1845 and had three daughters and three sons. David Livingstone crossed Kalahari to find Lake Ngama in 1849, and in 1851 he discovered Upper Zambesi, to which he introduced many trades by exploring rivers. In 1853, he began an exploration from coast to coast of the African interior for three years.

After all the research and exploring, he returned to England as a hero in 1856. In 1858 David returned to Zambesi to explore even more and find things about it that hadn’t been found yet. A tragic death happened in 1862 when is wife Mary joined him to research Zambesi. While there, she died.

In 1864 David Livingstone returned to England by sailing the Indian Ocean. David Livingstone is my hero because he wanted to go to China for missionary post, but there were too many wars going on there, which wrecked his plans. So, he decided to go to Africa. There, he researched one-third of the entire country of Africa. While there, he opened doors for a large number of young explorers who tried over the years to discover places not seen by foreigners. Therefore, David Livingstone gave them the chance to be able to do things and see things not seen before.
