Gracie

by Jack Giblin from Charlotte,NC

“Jack, make sure you take out the trash” , “Gracie I already told you I will do them in a minute” I know most of your siblings are very annoying - trust me - mine is too, but that does not prevent her from being my hero.  She can be very annoying but still fulfills all of my characteristics of a hero: a resilient attitude, a servant mentality, and a heart for God. Gracie Giblin a 5’,8’’ sixteen  year old girl who deserves that title hero in my eyes.

The first reason I acknowledge my sister as my hero is she is resilient. I think this because she never lets what people tell her, bother her. I remember one example was in fourth grade one of her classmates she thought was her friend started to make fun of her for what she was wearing. Only she did not stop being nice to this girl even when they were not friends anymore. I think this shows that she is because she could have easily just been mean right back but she restrained from retaliation. This shows that she is resilient.

Secondly of my favorite  heroic traits about my sister is that she has a servant mentality. She is always so eager to help out around the house. One example of her readiness to help is when she always cleans the kitchen without even having to be asked. Another example is that she is always so eager to help with my homework, it's like I do not even have to ask and she is there to help. Another example of her servant's heart is she would check on me to make sure that I do not get into trouble. This is also something that really annoys me about her but I have to realize that it is probably a good thing that she does this.

The last thing that stands out to me about my sister is that she has such a heart for God in everything that she does. My first example of this trait is such a disciple for the lord and tenaciously pursue people who need God in their lives. In fact, she was the one who led me to Christ. I am sure that many of you are wondering about the story behind that, so I will tell you. We were having a big fight and this will sound very cheesy, but I literally broke down in tears. After a while, she told me about how much God loves me and I accepted Christ.

I think that my sister displays all of these qualities: helpfulness, tenacity, and ever pursuing heart for Jesus. Before I wrote this essay, I did not realize that there are real life heroes. But after really thinking about what it means for me to be a hero, I realized that a hero does not have to have a superpower to give them an impact on others. This is what it means to be a hero in my sight.
