Greta Thunberg

Greta Thunberg is a child activist who fights for climate justice and started the Fridays for Future movement. But she is more than just that. She is a inspiration for many young people, and a hope for others that have been fighting for climate justice for years.  When Greta was 11 years old, she fell into depression. Not long after Greta recovered, she began skipping school on Fridays to strike outside the Swedish Parliament. Greta believes that her autism helps her see the world differently than other people. She has become vegan, and has stopped flying. Greta inspired me to take action in my everyday life, and to write about climate change. This is one poem I wrote.

                                                                                      Once life was abundant

                                                                                 Once lush Forests carpeted the land

                                                                                    But now they are only a memory

                                                                                   A sign of what should have been

                                                                                          Water levels are rising

                                                                                             People are dying 

                                                                                       And yet we still remand blind

                                                                                                   Unseeing

                                                                                                   Uncaring

                                                                                           We need to change now 

                                                                                          Before it is forever too late

                                                                                    The future of the world is in our hands

Greta shows us that you do not wait on the world to change, you change the world. We cannot keep waiting on the world to change, because it will never change if no one is willing to step up and take action. 

Although Greta is only seventeen, she still fights for what she believes in, and encourages other young people to do the same.

Millions of people are taking to the streets to try to convince our political leaders to act while we still have time. Greta has started a movement that has captured the world's attention. Now that we are aware of this crisis, it is up to us to decide what we are willing to do.

Though our past must be understood, this is not a matter of what we have done, but of what we must do.
