Martin Luther King

by Thomas Hugot from Seclin in France

What is a hero? I think that it's an ordinary person who does not hesitate to put his life in danger to save or defend someone for the right reasons. A hero is also a courageous person who isn't afraid of the judgment of others.

133456Martin Luther Kinghttps://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Luther_King_Jr.Martin Luther King was born in 1929, in Atlanta, US. He was a brilliant and intelligent student. Thanks to the wealth of his family, he escaped from the Afro-American poverty but no from the racial discrimination. When he was 18 years old, he decided to become pastor in the baptist church.

In 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested because she refused to give up her seat on a public bus to the white man. As a consequence, the black population reacted and also participated in the boycott with the leader, the pastor King, and all of it without violence.

In 1957, he became the first president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). He participated at many civil rights movement events, especially at the Washington protest in 1963 where he delivered his famous "I have a dream" speech in front of 250,000 people. In 1964, he received the Nobel Peace Prize.

Martin Luther King was the greatest peacemaker and the best speaker during the segregation era. He protested this period but acted always without violence.

I hate violence towards black or white people. I admire him for his nonviolence and his courage. This man proved that we can move mountains and make things change without violence. I'm convinced that for the right reasons, we can act effectively. Just like him, I think that we have to continue to fight against racism and discriminations. He didn't die in vain! I hope that someday I will be able to change things as he did!
