During the Revolutionary War, Mercy Warren wrote plays to keep troops in good spirit and to keep people informed. Her plays made the British look foolish and violent and made Patriots look intelligent and bold. Her first play was The Adulateur. Mercy Warren did not like the British being in Boston.
