Society for Educational Welfare

by SEW from Karachi

God has gifted women with outstanding abilities what can do wonders. Keeping this in mind, few women way back in 1996 realized that society is plunging in to the shadows of darkness and thus it requires a helping hand or else our future would be all gloomy.

Thus they started a welfare community by the name of Society for Educational Welfare (SEW). The popular local name for this project is Baithak School Network. The word "Baithak" in our native language refers to a place of sitting. The aim was to gather students and promote them education regardless of looking at resources at our disposal. In areas such as Balochistan and valleys there are still places where we provide education under the sun.

In the beginning it was extremely tough keeping in view that women had to each remote areas all by themselves but slowly and gradually things started to work out well. When people learnt about this, whey donated whole heartedly some with books, some with cash, some with buildings and others by volunteering.Today by the Grace of God, still majority of our staff is volunteer. Volunteers who spend at times 8-10 hours and even more if needed to complete their tasks. We are still running this organization on donations and they fortunately do keep on coming.

Our programs include:

  1. Formal and Informal Education
  2. Health and Hygiene Program
  3. Vocational Training Program
  4. Training and Capacity Building Program
  5. Friends with Books Program
  6. Teacher's Training Program
  7. Adult Education Program
  8. Collaborated Community Development Program
  9. Academic Development Program
  10. Our aim is not only to provide theoretical education to our students but also to teach them skills that will enable them to stand on their own feet. We hope to continue with our journey for many more years to come and each and every one of you can also play an important role in our mission.

Society for Educational Welfare (SEW) has had a long and hard struggle over the years to provide free of cost education to the deserving unprivileged students all over Pakistan. It all started in Karachi where we started in a two room house and now we have grown to about 134 schools all over the country.
