Ray Allen

by Adam from Joplin

When Ray Allen graduated from high school in 1991, he had many colleges to choose from. Not only for his outstanding basketball skills, but also for his just as outstanding academic skills. Ray also had the choice of skipping college and going straight to the NBA, but he wanted to make the right choice and further his learning in college.

Ray chose to attend the University of Connecticut. There he led their basketball team in scoring and assists for several years. He also led the Huskies to the Final Four two years in a row. The first year they barely lost to the Duke Blue Devils led by Grant Hill. The following year they lost another heartbreaker to the Kentucky Wildcats led by the overwelming duo of Antoine Walker and Ron Mercer.

When Ray Allen wasn't playing basketball, he was working very hard on his schoolwork. His learning was just as important to him as basketball. Ray knew he was very intelligent and could probably go in any direction he wanted to, but he just wasn't sure what he wanted to get his degree in. When his time at the University of Connecticut was over, Ray had obtained several degrees. He said he wanted to keep his options open after his basketball career.

In 1995, Ray was drafted into the National Basketball Association by the Milwaukee Bucks. At the end of his first NBA season, Ray made the Rookie All-Star team. Ray and his teammate Glenn Robinson were also feared in the NBA as a devastating duo. Ray Allen is still plays for the Bucks and has made the All-Star team every year. As his biggest accomplishment, Ray has almost been on the USA Dream Team. Ray Allen is often called "the most underated player in basketball."
