Simone Veil

by Léane from Gondecourt in France

Simone Veil was born on July 13th 1927 in Nice and died on June 30th 2017 in Paris.
She was Jewish and she survived the concentration camps in Auschwitz when she was young with her sisters but not her parents or her brother who died.

124456Simone VeilgoogleAfter the war she made law studies. In 1974, she was named minister of health.

January 17th 1975, she set up the law decriminalizing abortion, called the law Veil.

From 1979 to 1982 she was the first president of European parliament.

She led an exceptional fight for women, she fought for women's rights, she was always beaten, she was brave, devoted, courageous, generous.

She had to commit an abortion in France at 17 years old in horrible conditions when she was a student in a country she did not know because she was coming from Tunisia.

From my point of view, Simone Veil is a heroine because she devoted her life to represent the women in their fight for freedom, she proved to everyone that women had their rights.
