Stu News Laguna - Laguna honors its heroes at 2018 HERO Fest, including the LBPD and a film by Cory Sparkhul

JUNE 7, 2018 - LAGUNA BEACH, CA - Laguna Beach heroes will stand in the spotlight this weekend at the 2018 HERO Fest. The annual Laguna celebration, held on Saturday, June 2 at 7 p.m. at the Forum Theater, inside the Festival of Arts grounds, honors heroes from near and far with an evening of music, art, and short films.

This year’s local honorees include:

Laguna Beach Community Clinic: Then & Now, by Cory Sparkhul. This video celebrates the work of the clinic, which provides a wide range of medical services without regard to the patient’s ability to pay. Featured are Health HERO honorees Dr. Jorge Rubal, MD MBA – CEO & Medical Director and Adriana Nieto-Sayegh, RN – Clinical Director.

Anti Bullying Video by the Laguna Beach Police Department: This public service video featuring skateboard legend Tony Hawk shows how even the smallest text can be interpreted as bullying.

The film features Leadership HERO honorees Captain Jeff Calvert and Tony Hawk. It was created by the Laguna Beach Police Department Social Media Team: Sergeant Jim Cota, Corporal Darrel Short, Corporal Ryan Hotchkiss, Emergency Coordinator Jordan Villwock, Officer Mike Short, Officer Kyle Milot, Officer Mike Lee, Officer Brandon Drake, Community Services Officer Natasha Hernandez, Administrative Office Specialist Jenna Moore, and Kim Novick, Tony Hawk Foundation.

“I was really moved when I saw the Anti-Bullying video made with Tony Hawk by the Laguna Beach Police Department Social Media Team. I feel that this is a very important issue and the video addresses it in a way that young people will be motivated to take a stand against bullying!” said Wendy Milette, Festival Director.
