Thomas Vanderspurt

by Hadley Vanderspurt

Thomas Vanderspurt is my father and my hero from the day I was born. When I had nightmares at night he would come running into my room to calm me down. When we went on trips he would always carry me on his shoulders, and explained things to me when I did not know what others were talking about. Every year we go somewhere I want to go, and just spend the day together.

My dad was born in Lawrence, MA on April 1, 1946. Although his family was poor and his father was sick, my father worked hard in school while working around the house and supporting his family with many jobs. He went to Princeton to recieve his PhD in chemistry, and now is called "World-Class" in the field of Catalysis.

Although he works very hard all day, he always has time to help me with my homework or take me places on the weekend. Dad always teaches me how to fix things around the house. He calls me his little helper.

My Dad loves to read, travel, and his job. He manages to read a couple of books at once-don't ask me how. My mom plans our trips, but my father helps get us there. He loves chemistry and the world of science and thankfully this love has rubbed off on me.

I hope that one day I well make him as proud of me as I am of him - I love you Dad!
