Anne Frank

by Jessica from Raleigh

Anne Frank, was a young girl who was hiding from the Nazis for 25 months. She was trapped in the attic of a building known as the Secret Annex. Along with her parents, her sister, 4 more other members & herself. They were there for 2 years without being able to step foot outside. The reason why was for fear of being arrested by the Nazis. At that time they were looking for all the Jews. They obviously weren't getting along at that time. In addition, all the 8 members couldn't move from 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM. So that way no one below could hear them; otherwise, they could snitch to the Nazis that there was people hiding above. Just imagine being stuck with the same people 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 2 years, just because of a fear you shouldn't even have.

Her 13th birthday came by when she received a diary. A diary which she has never had and never thought of having. She started writing down her fears on it and so on. As Anne wrote on her first page of her diary, "I hope I will be able to confide everything to you, as I have never been able to confide in anyone, and I hope you will be a great source of comfort and support." Just hearing & reading those words makes you understand that she must have been really lonely and in the time of need she never had anyone. All she wanted is to be free, to be able to walk the streets without being harassed, to be able to do anything without being judged so harshly. All she wanted was a best friend. To keep herself strong going through all this, she used the diary as an outlet for her fear. "When I write, I can shake off all my cares" she wrote. I guess she never felt loved like she dreamed of one day.

Anne Frank was a very strong and brave girl. When she was younger, staying in the Netherlands, her teachers described her as a person who always spoke her mind. She was someone who liked the attention, and liked to make people laugh. She was considered like "a little comedian". They also said she's very mature for her age but all in a good way. They say that "she knew who she was". She had a strong personality . Which allowed her to show soo much thoughtfulness and bravery in her life. Just sitting in bed at night to hear the sirens, the bombs, the explosives and still try not think that maybe they just captured one of her friends or other relatives. In order for her to be able to handle all this and still try to live a semi-normal life, proved that she was brave.
