As a 16 year old she graduated, lived on her own, and did what she loved, Angelina Jolie chose to start her own life. Angelina's father, Jon Voight, was an essential actor who was praised throughout society in result of his varying movies. After being continuously hidden in the shadow of her father's fame, Jolie's main goal was to earn her fame and not inherit it from her father. She wanted to prove herself to the world and that's what she did. She persevered and accomplished unimaginable things as she became a Goodwill ambassador, a mother of six and went through a double mastectomy three years ago. A hero embodies selflessness by putting everyone before themselves and never giving up. They achieve their goals no matter what is in the way or who tells them they can't. She is brave and caring in all that she does therefore Angelina Jolie is my hero.

Angelina Jolie cared for as many people as she could as she strived to make the world a better place. Angelina went to refugees camps as a Goodwill ambassador wanting to help those in need. She soon found out that they helped her more than she could ever believe, "Jolie is frequently on the road to some of the world's most forlorn locales, visiting refugees camps and war-torn zones as a Goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. It's a position--and a commitment--that Jolie takes very seriously. 'Refugees have done more for my heart and my spirit than I can ever express in words,' she said last year. 'They have change my life, they have shown me friendship and love and courage and loyalty. They have triumphed against enormous odds with unbroken spirit,'" (Sandell). Jolie knew she was fortunate to have the life she was given. She became a Goodwill ambassador because she always had a love of caring for people. Angelina contributed selfless deeds to the world to make others feel cared for and to inspire everyone around her. She traveled all over the world to help those less fortunate and never expected any sort of reward. "Her humanitarian work has also garnered awards for the actress. Jolie received the first Citizen of the World award in 2003 from the United Nations Correspondents Association. The award is given to those who make a 'significant contribution' to humanitarian causes. In 2005, the United Nations Association of the USA presented Jolie with the Global Humanitarian Action Award for her activism concerning refugee rights," (McGroarty, Kent). Angelina never cared about an award for doing what she thought was right. She felt obligated to help anyone she could and people recognized her efforts and kindness for it. Jolie felt lucky to have the life she was given and was determined to better others lives who were less fortunate than she was. Ultimately, her main goal was to put smiles on people's faces. Although Angelina was appreciative and received many rewards, her real prize was all the smiles that she brought.

Angelina Jolie has been in the spotlight all her life. Everything in her life has been public even the really tough times. Angelina was extremely brave, kept her composure and came through it with grace. While Angelina Jolie was at the very high point in her life she had an unexpected scare of cancer. "On March 24, 2015, Jolie wrote in another article in the New York Times that she had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed the previous week to further lower her risk for cancer. 'I did not do this solely because I carry the BRCA1 gene mutation, and I want other women to hear this,' Jolie wrote." "'The most important thing is to learn about the options and choose what is right for you personally.' The actress said she went public with her decision to help 'other women at risk to know about the options,'" (Biography.com Editors). While dealing with cancer she didn't hide or runaway from her problems. Most people would try to keep it private and be scared but Angelina promoted it in the sense that she wanted women to be aware of what could happen. She wanted to be brave for all the women that couldn't be brave for themselves. Jolie was starting up a relationship with former co-star Brad Pitt after his divorce and all of her positive spotlight for acting was overshadowed by the new relationship in a negative way, "Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt on the cover of People magazine with & ellipsis; Time Inc. Jolie's personal life often attracted at least as much attention as her acting. Her relationship with Pitt became fodder for tabloids, and the birth of the couple's biological children, Shiloh (2006)" (Sandell). Angelina's life was constantly in the media. When Brad and Angelina got together there was tons of bad press on the relationship due to Brad having a child with Jolie a year after divorcing Jennifer Aniston. Angelina had all this negative pressure but handled it greatly and held her head high through it all. Jolie has always been brave. She faced everything head on and never ran away from her problems.

Bravery and Caring for humanity are what shapes heros and that's why Angelina Jolie is my hero. Jolie helped people in need all around the world. Angelina helped wherever she could and always wanted those she helped to feel empowered. Even while struggling with her own life she continued to put others before herself. Jolie inspires countless individuals and myself because she is incredibly selfless. She disregards her fears and takes on everything in her path. Angelina Jolie has completely made me think in a different way and I am so glad I wrote about her. One day I hope to inspire people the way she did and still does today.
