Blackie the Horse

by Michara from Tiburon

Blackie was a horse born in Kansas in 1926. He loved to stay still and enjoy all the scenery. He was bought by a cowboy who took Blackie to Salinas so he could help him in rodeos. After a few years he became sway backed, yet he survived going all the way to Yosemite with an army captain where he took pictures with tourists. Then he got sold again to an Oysterman from Tiburon. He stood still in a pasture watching the time go by. One day a man said, "lets build a highway and mall," but Blackie didn't like it. He lived in that pasture for 28 years. Now there is not a mall and highway.

I think Blackie should be a hero because he went many places and warmed people's hearts. His favorite foods were sugar cubes, apples, and carrots. We have a statue of Blackie in Tiburon. People can visit his statue and pasture in Tiburon.
