Robin McLaurim Williams was born on the 21st of July, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, to a fairly well-off family. Comedians have usually had a tough time building a long-term career in film. No matter how brilliant the comedian is, he cannot continue to carry movies by absolute comedic brilliance. To really succeed, they must break through that obstacle, to become accepted as a true actor.

Recently, there has only been one actor of that type who has managed to take that mighty step. Known to the world as the alien Mork from the planet Ork, Robin Williams was never expected to be taken seriously. As a comedian, his stand-up routines were full of snappy one-liners and brilliant impressions. His first cinematic breakthroughs: Good Morning Vietnam, Mrs. Doubtfire and Aladdin, were all movies where Williams just had to be himself. The guy could never really "act" because he was never able to stand still long enough.

But finally after years and years of training, the funny-man was actually acting in serious roles. Eventually he was starring in movies alongside Al Pacino and Edward Norton. In his movie career he has won 5 Golden Globe Awards and 1 Oscar. You could say that there are better things to come from the man once known as the alien Mork.

"You are only given a little spark of madness," he said. "You must not lose that madness."
