Alicia Keys

by Jesabel from New York

What is a hero? A hero does not have to be someone famous or someone you have to necessarily have met before. It can be your mother, it can even be a doctor that once saved your life because you was so sick and you almost didn't make it through. A hero is someone who has been through it all just to get where they're at now and has helped you to overcome something or even helped you change your ways. People you look up to are considered heroes. Well I'm going to tell you a little something about my hero i chose, and that's Alicia Keys.

Alicia Keys is so bright at what she does she illuminates a dark room. Alicia Keys was born and raised in Manhattan. She started to use her talent at the age of five and really got a hold to it and took it to a new level when she was nineteen. At the tender age of seven Alicia Keys was introduced to the piano. By the age of 14 Alicia Keys wrote her first song "Butterflyz" which is featured on her latest album "Songs in A Minor". Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Nina Simone, and Donny Hathaway were all her inspirations, as were Biggie, Tupac, Jay-Z and Wu Tang. Alicia Keys took all of those different genres of music and rolled them into one, to create a style all her own. At the age of 16 Alicia was an early graduate of high school. Alicia keys was 17 and performing around, including a spot on BET's Teen Summit. In the two years between being signed with J Records at 18 and her album being released at 20, Alicia was able to grow as an artist.

Now when you think about music, beauty, intelligence, and creativity, who comes to your mind? Well Alicia Keys comes to my mind. She writes such beautiful songs and every song has a meaning to it, such as the song "Karma", with words like "Cause what goes around, comes around. What goes up, must come down". These were her exact words to the song. In this song she explains a lot about karma. She is basically saying that don't do to others what you don't want done to you. Make your choices wisely and don't say one thing and and think nothing of it and then want the person back. So what you did or said to that person will come back to you, it doesn't necessarily mean at the time that it happened but it can come back to you when you deeply love that person and then they play you.

I like Alicia Keys because she inspires me in many ways. When I listen to her music it makes me feel good and make me feel a certain way towards my boyfriend. She just keeps it real in her lyrics. She talks about real life situations that I can relate to. Just when I listen to her lyrics its like she knows exactly whats going on in my life. If it wasn't for her making the songs she do I wouldn't be with my man. I wouldn't be a strong independent women doing my own things and not letting a man take me down no matter how rough the situation is. Sometimes I think about just sitting there and writing songs about my situations just like she does so maybe if people hear a teenager make a song of what she been through in life they would change their way of how they do things today. Alicia Keys makes me open my eyes and realize a lot of things. In life there is a time for everything; a time to play and a time to be serious.
