Bono (Paul David Hewson)
by Sean from Brookfield
Music was an alarm bell for me, it woke me up to the world.
Most people know Bono as the lead Singer in U2. But there is more to him than meets the eye. I think that Bono is a hero because he has a great musical career, he has done a lot of humanitarian work especially in Africa, and he is the only person to ever be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, a Grammy, an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe.

One reason I believe Bono is a hero is because of his amazing musical career. For those who did not already know, Bono is the lead singer in U2. He also Plays rhythm guitar and harmonica. Bono has made tons of hits including " I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", "Sunday Bloody Sunday ", and " MLK ". He has also been known to work with Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson. He has been known to go on a number of tours such as the Vertigo Tour and the Zoo TV tour. But what makes Bono so much different than other musicians is all the help he contributes to around the world.
The second reason I believe that Bono is a great hero is because of all the humanitarian work he has done. U2 has done many AIDS awareness concerts in the past. Not only that, but Bono has become very involved with third world debt relief. Bono also started an organization called Debt, AIDS, Trade, and Africa (DATA). DATA's purpose was to stop poverty and AIDS in Africa. This was established in 2002 with Bobby Shriver. They also started Product Red which was also an organization to stop AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. For much of this Bono has been nominated and won awards.

The third reason i believe Bono is a hero is because he is the only person in history to be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, an Academy Award, a Grammy, and a Golden Globe. Bono has been nominated 3 times for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work with poverty and AIDS in Africa. He has won 22 Grammies and One Golden Globe. The Golden Globe was for "The Hands That Built America" in Gangs of New York. He has only been nominated once for an Academy Award. Bono also was chosen as one of America's top 100 most influential people in Time Magazine. All these accomplishments just show how amazing of a person Bono and the band U2 really is.
In conclusion, I think Bono is a very influential person and a hero in my eyes. He has a fantastic music career with U2. He also has done so much for the world, especially Africa. He is the only person that has ever been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, a Grammy, a Golden Globe award, and an Academy Award. As I said, there is more to Bono than meets the eye. He is a great man and truly a Hero.
