On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) GIZ has contributed to international efforts to overcome FGM since 1999. Female genital mutilation (FGM) refers to various procedures involving partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons. This Animation explains the holistic approach of the GIZ that targets a number of different levels, to contribute to the effort to eliminate this practice.
