John Lennon was born on October 9, 1940. He was born in Liverpool, England, United Kingdom. His father Alfred, a ship's steward, never spent time with John. Julia, John's mother, lived with her Father Pop Stanley and her sister Anne also called Nanny. When Julia and Alfred’s marriage was over Julia met someone else who Mimi, Julia’s older sister, did not approve of. Mimi made arrangements so John could come live with her, much against his mothers’ wishes. Julia did visit John. She taught him to play the banjo and bought him his first guitar. When a car fatally struck Julia, John was devastated.
A hero to me is someone who writes powerful songs to go against bad things such as drugs and war. John Lennon did this. He also wrote songs that will last for generations to come. One of my favorite songs he wrote about was stopping war and starting peace. In this song he says, “Imagine all the people living in peace you might say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one and I hope one day you will join us and the world will live as one.”
In 1960 The Beatles formed. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr were in this band, but by 1970 the Beatles broke up. Ten years later on December 8, 1980, John Lennon was shot by David Chapman in front of the apartment building he lived in. He was shot five times and by the time he got to the hospital he was dead.
John Lennon will never be forgotten because he is a wonderful figure of peace. The reason I picked John Lennon is because he can change someone’s life if they just hear one of his songs on the radio.
