Martin Luther King Jr. gave back rights to many people. He fought for their rights. He made sure everyone had a fair everyday life. Martin was like the little guy fighting the big macho guy, the society of segregation.

Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He grew up with one brother and one sister. He did have a mother and a father and did go to school. When Martin finished junior high school he skipped 9th grade. As he was in high school he skipped 12th grade and went into college after 11th grade at age 15. As a child, Martin was inspired by one of his father’s classmates, Howard Thurman. Thurman was a civil rights leader. As Martin graduated from college he began to see more and more African Americans being treated badly. It really had disappointed Martin.

Later on, Martin had to overcome many obstacles, but the biggest one was fighting for equal rights for everyone no matter what race you are. He had to overcome them by giving many speeches and peacefully protesting.

At the time of his protesting, Martin was very young. At age 22 he graduated with a PhD in Theology. In 1965 Martin and about 3,200 people marched and protested in Washington DC. Martin gave a famous speech called “I have a Dream”. This speech changed many Americans. It made them think about how African Americans felt. It helped all races build one great big family.

My hero accomplished many achievements. He wrote famous speeches and books all to show what he wanted to see change in the society of America. He won the Nobel peace prize. His most famous speech that is most known is called “I have a Dream”.

His traits show me he wasn’t a person of revenge. Martin used words to defend himself, he wasn’t a negative person, and believed that people in life would make mistakes that other people would consider wrong. An example is a woman stabbed Martin, Martin told the police not to prosecute her, he told the police that she needed to be healed.

I would consider my hero a hero because he managed to change a society of segregation. I would also consider him a hero because he made all rights possible and equal. I’m sure other people would consider him a hero too.

My hero inspires me to treat others the same and be equal. Not to look at what race they are, but to see who they are. He inspires me to never give up in life and to keep moving forward.
