Samuel Prescott

by Dane from Laguna Beach

Dr. Samuel Prescott
Dr. Samuel Prescott

My revolutionary hero is Samuel Prescott. He had an impact on our lives because he finished the Midnight Ride and told the whole city of Concord that the British were coming to confiscate their weapons. Prescott had jumped over a brick fence, while Dawes had escaped on foot but ended up lost in the wilderness, and Revere was captured. He helped the beginning of the Revolutionary War. He joined the Midnight Ride halfway while visiting his sick wife at the Lexington Inn. Samuel later joined the Army as a Doctor. All of these actions occurred around the dates the battles of Lexington and Concord.

Samuel unfortunately was captured and taken prisoner at the age of 25. Prescott died at the age of 26 in prison. He really helped the patriots cause because he completed the midnight ride and got the message that Revere and Dawes failed to deliver to Concord. Samuel had a good education as a doctor. All of Samuel's actions with the revolutionary cause were heroic because without him the British would have had a surprise attack on Concord and they would have gotten the ammunition and weapons the Patriots were hiding. Samuel traveled a lot throughout his short life and never really had a permanent home.

Samuel was born in 1751 and died in 1777. Samuel should have received more credit for the midnight ride. In fact, he hardly is even known for the famous midnight ride when he completed it.
