A hero is someone who wants to make a creative difference to the world, who encourages others to do the same, and inspires others, and who never stops doing this.

My hero is Claude Monet. On November 14, 1840, Claude Monet was born. Monet painted still lifes in order to show them to art schools in Paris. He painted “Impression, Sunrise,” and the critics couldn’t stop talking about it. This was the birth of Impressionism. He had his first problems with eyesight in 1907. This made life harder for Monet. In 1923 Monet was nearly blind, but he had an operation, which made his eyesight improve. Monet continued painting, but he suffered from lung cancer and died on December 5, 1926.

Claude Monet was the first artist to show impressionism. One of his famous pieces, “Water Lilies,” might look like a bunch of dots up close, but when you stand back you see a beautiful piece with many flowers. Monet did this for money but also for entertainment and admiration.

Claude Monet is my hero, because he was the first artist to show impressionism. He did a wonderful picture of himself, made out of tiny dots! I want to grow up to paint like him one day.
