What is a definition of a hero? A hero is someone you can look can look up to. They set a good example. Many people think of a hero as Spider-man or the X-men. Heroes can be someone who just decides to walk a old lady across the street. Anyone can be a hero, it just depends on how you try and act. My hero is a person who had problems but still tried to help others. Her name was Eleanor Roosevelt.

Eleanor Roosevelt was a very good child in her childhood. She lost both her parents when she was young and had to live with her grandmother in New York. She had private tutors until she turned fifteen years old. She married her fifth cousin who just happened to be Franklin D. Roosevelt. Presidents ran in the family and soon her husband was the new president of the United States of America.

Eleanor Roosevelt had many problems in her lifetime. She had six children and one died when she was giving birth. In 1921 her husband found out that he had polio. He would be crippled and have to get a wheel chair. Eleanor also had to deal with being the first lady of the White House. There also were the world war one and two wars. She had to deal with lots of criticism and the death of her husband.

Eleanor Roosevelt helped many people by working in the Red Cross and Navy hospitals. She participated in many women activities like the Women's Trade Union League. She founded many things and even taught at the Todhunter School, which is a private girl's school in New York. She helped the poor and disadvantaged people. She wrote a newspaper article called "My Day." She flew on a plane with an African American Tuskegee Airmen that was a big deal because it was a great symbolic value.

Eleanor is my hero because she was a nice, smart determined lady. She faced problems trying to help others but she kept going. She was a very caring lady that cared for other people than just friends and family. She wanted everyone to be equal and worked hard to try to do that. She helped many people from the will of her heart. She is my hero for the past, present, and future.
