“The doctor has been taught to be interested not in health but in disease. What the public is taught is that health is the cure for disease” -Ashley Montagu Quotes

When I became aware of Dr. Rinsky was when my mom's doctor in South Africa had referred him to us for my sister since she had needed a check up from an pediatric orthopedic surgeon. We had finally met him when we had scheduled an appointment to have my sister her first check up. He was the only doctor that had made the right diagnosis, rather than the other doctors that we had gone to. He was able to diagnose my sister with the right disease which was a rare bone disease called Ossifying Fibroma Dysplasia. I want to go into the medical field when I grow up because he has inspired me to go towards it.

Pediatric orthopedic surgeons diagnose, treat, and manage children's musculoskeletal problems like, limb and spine deformities noted at birth or later in life, Gait abnormalities, broken bones, bone or joint infections and tumors. They can make at least $250,000 a year and it can go up in the millions if they have worked for a long period of time. It usually takes 14 years to complete the course to become a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. They have to go through many years of internship, residency, med school and undergraduate school. They have many tests to go through and only 5-10% of applicants are accepted.

There isn’t much on Dr. Rinsky’s younger life but from how he acts today he is very joyful and nice. He is able to get the job done right and make the patients feel comfortable when they are around him. He graduated from the University Of Cincinnati College Of Medicine in 1971. He was at Stanford for a residency hospital and completed in 1976, he was also there for an internship and completed it in 1972. I think one career success was helping my sister with her disease almost 10 years ago and helping her go through with it.

He does help other people by helping them with the problems they are coming to him for and by diagnosing and treating it properly. He helps many children with the problems that they got to him for. He is able to contribute to others by what he does exactly. He is able to help children when they are injured and in need. He is very helpful in the types of situations that are in dire need of attention. “I don't dawdle. I'm a surgeon. I make an incision, do what needs to be done and sew up the wound. There is a beginning, a middle and an end.”- Dr. Richard Selzer.

To have an idea on the concept of being a doctor I think you would have to take anatomy, maybe some other medical classes and when you reach a certain age you could apply for an internship. In college I hope to go to Stanford University in Northern California and be able to have an internship up there. Dr. Rinsky has opened my eyes on how you could make a huge impact on someone’s life and has inspired me to become a doctor and to help people in my own way. My whole family is very grateful for what he has done to help us, and I bet the other families he has helped thank him very much as well. Dr. Lawrence A. Rinsky is an inspirational man that has put me towards the path of helping other people.
