LeBron Raymone James was born on December 30, 1984 in Akron, Ohio. He was born into a household without a father and his mother was just 16 years old. When he was a child, LeBron and his mother lived with his grandmother. She was able to provide them with food, shelter, and clothes. When she turned 40, sadly, she died of cancer and LeBron and his mother struggled to find places to live. They moved around a lot, never having lived in the same home for an extended period of time. LeBron and his mother lived on welfare and food stamps for most of his childhood. Often times, LeBron's mother, Gloria James, would make LeBron stay with his basketball coaches because she would be traveling around so much, although she would always be close by. In high school, LeBron attended St Vincent St Mary High School. There he won 3 state championships for his school and was Mr. Ohio 3 times as well. He was also an All- American wide receiver for his school football team and took his team to the state championships. When LeBron was 18 he entered the NBA draft and was selected #1 overall to the Cleveland Cavaliers. That same year, in 2003, he signed a $90 million dollar shoe contract with Nike and a few other companies. He now has his own shoe style and there have been 5 different editions, a new one every year.

6 Years later, LeBron has turned into a massive 6 foot 8, 260 pound small forward who can play almost any position on the basketball floor. He can shoot, dunk, pass, block, and do almost anything on the court with the basketball in his hands. He is well known for his electrifying dunks and his massive blocks. In his rookie season, he was named rookie of the year and over the past 5 years he has been elected to the All-Star game. Last year, LeBron represented Team USA in the Beijing Olympics and won the gold medal and in 2009 he was awarded the leagues MVP. He is by far the best player in the NBA and also one of the best players to ever play the game of Basketball. Before LeBron entered the NBA he was being compared to people like Michael Jordan.

LeBron James still lives in Akron, Ohio. He lives there with his girlfriend, Savannah Brinson, and his two children. His first son, LeBron James Jr, who was born October 6th, 2004 and his second son, Bryce Maximus James, born on June 14 2009. His kids are the most important things in the world to him and he claims he would have probably gone insane with all of the fame and money without his kids. Even after a tough loss his kids always cheer him up after a game.

LeBron James is not only a hero on the court, but he is also a hero off the court. Every Thanksgiving LeBron gives out turkeys to the less fortunate people living in Akron. In 2006 he went all out and gave 800 people a Thanksgiving turkey dinner, and then they all went to a movie theater to watch a sneak preview of “Alvin and the Chipmunks”. He also gave each of those families gift cards for groceries and transportation. LeBron is a huge supporter of Barack Obama. During Barack’s campaign he donated $20,000 in his support. LeBron has his own charity as well, The LeBron James Family Foundation. Each year he hosts a bikeathon in Akron, Ohio. The bikeathon goes on a 3-mile ride for the younger children around Akron, and then a longer 8-mile ride for more experienced bikers. LeBron donates 300 bicycles to some of the less fortunate children in Akron who have shown character and leadership in their school and community. LeBron's foundation also does many other things inside and outside his community. During hurricane Katrina, The LeBron James Family Foundation donated $200 000 to help evacuate people from Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi. The foundation also donates backpacks and school supplies to children in Akron. LeBron James has done many things on and off the court to help benefit his community. He loves his home town of Akron and that is why he feels it is important to give back to where he came from.

LeBron James is my hero because he really got me into loving the game of basketball. He inspired me to take the game up, and take it seriously. He helped me elevate my game to the next level. He is my hero because he is a leader. Ever since he entered the NBA he has handled himself like a champion. He entered the NBA when he was 18 and a millionaire. He is my hero because he was able to handle himself so well, at such a young age. There were such high expectations for him when entering the NBA and he has lived up to them. LeBron James is a person who leads by example. This means that he sets the standard for other people to follow. Whenever there is time running out in the end of a game and the Cavaliers need a basket, his teammates look for LeBron. LeBron, on the other hand, looks for his teammates. He is a team player who has proved himself on and off the court at a very young age. LeBron James is a hero because he is a role model for anyone who plays sports because what he has done as a professional basketball player, but also how he has overcome such hardships as a child. That is why LeBron James is my hero.
