"I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so you can learn to let go. Things go wrong so you can appreciate them when they're right. You believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself. And sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together." ~Marilyn Monroe

When the word hero is mentioned the first people that come to mind are probably war heroes or fictional heroes. Rarely would someone think of Marilyn Monroe, since she hasn’t saved billions of lives or ended world hunger. Yet she is a hero because she grew up to overcome her difficult past and to live the life she had always dreamed of. She stayed strong no matter what she had to go through. Marilyn is my idol because of her strength, talent, confidence and the beauty she held/inside and out.

Marilyn was born on June 1, 1926 in California Los Angeles General Hospital. Her mother was Gladys Baker, her father was unidentified; therefore she had never met her real dad. When she was young her mother was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, so Marilyn had to live in a foster home. She was later adopted, and lived with her foster parents until she was 16. Marilyn's legal name was Norma Jean Mortenson. She changed it when she signed a contract with Fox. Her career started with modeling, then continued into acting and even singing.

Her foster parents who began having financial troubles, made her choose between the foster home or marriage at age 16. She didn’t want to go back to the foster home because she claimed that she was sexually abused there. She married Jim, her next door neighbor, so that her foster parents would no longer have to worry about her financially. That marriage ended because Jim forced her to choose between him or her career. After her first divorce she took a job on the assembly line at the Radio Plane Munitions factory. Several months later, she was discovered by photographer David Conover; he had stated that she was a photographer's dream.

She was a hero because she overcame her hard life and childhood and became what she always wanted to be. Though she wasn’t accepted in the industry at first, she toughed it through and became one of the best actors of all time. To me personally she is a hero because she was considered to be one of the most beautiful women in the world, even though she was a size 10. When people today strive to be a size 00. She is proof that you don’t have to look like a stick bug to be beautiful.

On August 5 1962, the actress had an overdose of sleeping pills and went into a coma which led to her death. Marilyn died at age 36, and even though she lived a short life she achieved so many great things. People are always telling you to go for your dreams and she did. She inspired many people, including myself, to go after their dreams. She had such a hard life with three failed marriages and a horrible childhood, yet somehow she got through it. That is why Marilyn Monroe is my hero.
