18th July 1918. A baby boy was born in Mtata, South Africa. His father was the chief of his tribe. ROLIHLAHLA MANDELA, or well-known as NELSON MANDELA, was definitely born to be a hero. ‘Rolihlahla’ means troublemaker and it showed that he was so naughty. But one day, his school teacher added ‘Nelson’ in front of his real name and hoped that his new name will change his bad attitude. And it worked! He changed not only his bad attitude but also the world!

He started to join the political after he graduated the College of Fort Hare. He criticized the white skin people whom underestimated the black skin people and the thought which said that white skin people were in the higher position than the black skin people. These reasons motivated him to change that condition.

Mandela then worked for a law office. His career was really good and he became a successful lawyer. But for years, he still criticized the apartheid politics. Just because they were black skin people, they can lose their human rights! So, Mandela joined a league called African National Congress (ANC). He and all the other members took a significant part in increasing black skin people position. Meanwhile, the South African’s government in which consisted of white skin people tried to arrest them and sent them into jail. And they definitely succeeded. Mandela was arrested and sent to the Robben Island for five years. After all, for another long period, Mandela was sent back to jail again. In the end, he spent more than two decades of his life in the jail.

He had had a great reputation in black skin people community and they treated Mandela as their leader. From the beginning, he already swore that he would dedicate his whole life to get all of black skin people in this world into their liberty. That’s why, suddenly, he became the symbol of the black skin people movement. At 1904, Mandela was elected to become the first black-skinned president of South Africa. But he refused to be elected again at 1999 general elections. He also received a Noble prize for peace at 1993.

Why did I choose him to be my hero? First of all, I was inspired by his social sensitivity. It helped me a lot to respect and not to underestimate another people. He made me realize that all of human beings have the same rights to live happily ever after, without any discrimination at all. My second reason was about his struggle, since he is a patriotic man, who always fights for his objectives until his last blood. A big salute for Mandela!
