Rosa Parks

A hero is someone who doesn’t quit on something if it gets too hard, or someone who works hard and is strong and confident in themselves. Someone like Rosa Parks; she is strong, hard working, and so much more. She inspired me by standing up for her rights and just being herself and not someone other people wanted her to be. She stands out to me and I really think she is a hero to everyone.

Rosa Parks refused to give up a seat for a white man. The bus driver told her she better get up or he will have her arrested, but she still refused. She was very brave that day; I would have jumped right up if a white man wanted to sit there. But not Rosa Parks, she stood up for what she believes in and that is amazing. She stayed very strong while she got arrested and when people harassed her, she did not give up because of what people had said. She had something to say and believed in something and she wasn’t going to just give up. She was a strong women and that is inspiring to me.

Parks was also very hard-working. She attended Alabama State Teachers College but did not graduate with her class because of the illness her grandmother had. She joined NAACP and worked hard with her husband Raymond Parks. They worked for the NAACP to improve the lot of African- Americans in the segregation south. She also managed to take care of her home and her husband. They both were very hard workers.

You wouldn’t call Rosa Parks rich, because she definitely was not. But that still did not bring her down, she still worked as hard as she could and did not give up. She was also an assistant in a department store.

A lot of people do not stand up for what they believe in, if it has to do with school or a fight or something, they just let people run all over them. I truly think that after I read about Rosa Parks I started saying what I thought, sometimes it’s not good to say how you feel about people, but for the most part we should say something if someone is taking advantage of us, just like Rosa did. I mean she changed segregation. If she can change the way people think about blacks, just think what we can do if we stand up for what we believe in.

Reading about Rosa Parks really made me understand more about slavery and segregation. It really inspired me to know that she did so much. She is a hero in my eyes and always will be. Rosa Parks will never be forgotten.
