Rosa Parks is my hero because she did a great thing and defended herself on a city bus in 1955. When a person came up to her and said, “Get up I want to sit there. You can go sit in the back”, she said no to him and got arrested. She also answered questions that kids asked her in a great book called Dear Mrs. Rosa Parks.
I chose Rosa Parks because she also is a great example to children for what she did to defend herself, like they should. That is very important.
In a book I read called Dear Mrs. Rosa Parks. She replied to letters that kids sent her. She wrote back to them exactly what they asked and her letters really explained things. One child asked if they could change the world. That is a great question to ask about because everyone can change the world know matter how small you are, you can make a difference.
Rosa Parks also said this to a child “ by asking a question, you are making a difference. You are thinking about your place in the world and what you can do for other people. Anyone who wants to make a difference in the world can do it. There are many ways to serve. Sometimes it can be your career choice, such as being a teacher, lawyer, minister, engineer, health care worker, or medical researcher. All of these jobs, and others, give you a chance to have a direct impact on people’s lives. Other times, you can serve your community by taking part in activities during the evenings or throughout the weekends in your church or with a community group. I always encourage those who ask how they can make a difference to consider working with young people. They have so many needs and concerns as they prepare themselves for their place in the next century. You might be one to counsel them when they are troubled or to be a mentor to those who need someone to guide them. All of us have talents that we can share with others. I am grateful to those who care about humanity and want to make a difference.”
That is what I think is great about Rosa Parks. She wrote to children great things and sets a great example. She defended herself and was able to say know to a person that thought they had more power than her. That was wrong. That is why Mrs. Rosa Parks is my hero.
