Born on the Fourth of July is the autobiography of Ron Kovic who shared his experiences as a Marine Corps sergeant during the Vietnam War. Kovic was paralyzed from the mid-chest down during combat, which made him turn his attention toward peace, leading marches and becoming a prominent spokesperson for the anti-war movement.

Kovic's autobiography became a best seller. He then co-wrote the screenplay adaptation that director Oliver Stone turned into an Academy Award and Golden Globe-winning film, starring Tom Cruise. He has spent the past 42 years speaking out for the rights of veterans and victims of war.

Each year, Kovic sponsors the Ron Kovic Peace Prize at the MY HERO International Film Festival. The award goes to the short film that best represents the theme of peace and offers a $1000 cash prize to support the efforts of artists and peace activists. Kovic's story is chronicled on the MY HERO website (http://myhero.com/ronkovic).

The MY HERO Project is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization that uses the power of media and technology to inspire, educate and empower people around the world.
