Steve Irwin

by Michael from St. Louis

A True Hero

People who are thought to be heroes such as Superman are not actually heroes: heroes are people that help others every day, and that is why Steve Irwin is a hero. He was always helping people and animals; all while finding time to raise a family with his job as a herpetologist and zoologist. He educated people and saved animals at the same time by teaching the people how wonderful the animals are and other things about them. I can actually relate to the Crocodile Hunter because I love to help others and also love animals. This essay will explain why Steve Irwin is a hero.

I was introduced to him when I was young. I loved reptiles and had a couple of pet snakes and lizards. I started watching his show on Animal Planet and he became my idol right away. He taught me all I know about reptiles and for quite a few years I was really thinking that I wanted to be a herpetologist. His show was really what started his career in saving animals.

Every one thinks the Crocodile Hunter was just a guy who went out and caught crocodiles and snakes, but that was just a part of his life. Irwin was also a loving friend and family member. He had a young daughter and son, along with his wife Terri. His show shows how much he actually cares for his family and his many friends. He enlightened and inspired all of the people around him.

Steve took his work very seriously, though he had fun doing it. He traveled all over the world to teach people about all different kinds of animals. He went on a trip to an ocean to teach about sea creatures. He was down on the bottom of the ocean swimming with stingrays at the time. When he swam too close to one of them, it was frightened and stung him straight through the stomach and, just like that, the Crocodile Hunter no longer existed.

Steve Irwin inspired me in all of these ways and even a lot more. He was always out doing good for the world by helping everyone and everything around him. He relates to my own life because I love the outdoors and want to protect them and also love being around people and helping them. He was always just there but when I heard he died I lost my breath, he just always seemed invincible to me. He is my hero because he went out and did what he loved while helping everything and everyone around him and even paid the ultimate sacrifice for it.
