Native Americans never went to school. Instead they would be trained to either fight or help the village in some way. Tecumseh was supposed to fight. Chiksika taught Tecumseh how to fight.

Early in his life, Tecumseh had a strong anger toward Europeans. Did you know Tecumseh was only 14 when he entered his first battle? Tecumseh’s father died when he was only 8. Tecumseh’s younger brother (Tenskwatawa) was chief when Tecumseh was away. Tenskwatawa demanded the tribe call him “The Prophet”.

Tecumseh fought in many battles, so the Shawnee tribe could keep their land. Tecumseh fought in the Battle of Tippecanoe and the Battle of Fallen Timbers. Tecumseh had a different career than most people. He was the Shawnee chief. While he was away, his brother filled in for him.

Tecumseh didn’t become famous until after he died. Many people had heard about him but he wasn’t a big figure until after the War of 1812. Tecumseh had 2 major accomplishments. He became the Shawnee chief at a very young age. He also united the Indian nations.

There were a few things going on in the US during the time of Tecumseh. There were always battles between people. Also the War of 1812 was going on.
