Nikola Tesla

by Garrett from Encino

This man is a hero because his determination put him ahead of what anyone else thought possible, and through this he invented many things that have changed the way our society functions. He is also a hero because he was not afraid to use his imagination to lead his work, which proved crucial to his success. Most people in today’s society, however, are not even aware of Tesla’s contribution to many of the things we use in our daily lives. This is most likely because his name was not mentioned in the scientific community until he was already long dead, and others claimed many of his inventions.

Nikola Tesla is among a group of scientists who were ahead of their time. Many of Tesla’s inventions are still used today, while many were not even used until his time had already passed, and his inventions were rediscovered. Among the most famous of these is the Tesla Coil. Invented in 1891, it did not have much use except in radios, one of the earliest wide used electronic devices. Unknown to him and scientists of his day, this invention would also become almost necessity for many modern day electronics including the television.

Personally, I admire Tesla’s vision of the future and his ability to associate his own technology into his image, which was not far from the truth. One great attribute of his was that he invented for the sake of improving life and the way things worked, not for personal fame or profit. This kind of selflessness for the good of people as a whole is, in my viewpoint, one of the best heroic attributes.

Whether or not Tesla really desired to be a hero, will never be known, but what is known is that he had a revolutionary vision of the future and with his imagination and determination he changed the progress of technology, as we know it. Sadly, Tesla never achieved his major goals, and his accomplishments were not recognized until long after his time, but nevertheless he was a hero and his achievements will continue to lives on for many years to come.
