Matt Groening

by Ryan Yandersits from Center Valley

Lisa, Marge, Maggie, Bart, and Homer are the four-fingered family members that he is famous for. Matt Groening introduced the Simpsons to the world for the first time in 1986 on "The Tracey Ullman Show" but they didn't debut on their home network of Fox until 1990.

Matt didn't get off easy with his cartoon ideas. He held jobs such as, he worked as a sewage treatment plant worker and was a chauffeur for an aging movie director and a ghostwriter for the director's memoirs. then Matt got the great oppertunity to make his own series of books.

Matt made it by with his books but in 1986 he brought a cartoon family into everyday situations and the show was a hit. At first Maggie, Lisa, Marge, Bart and Homer premiered as a short cartoon on the "Tracy Ullman Show." The Simpsons didn't get their own program until 1990 with the Fox network. The Simpsons were the first prime time cartoon in 20 years and are still running new episodes on Sunday at 8:00 eastern time on the Fox network.

In my eyes, Matt is a comedy genius. Matt used his family as the Simpsons family members. Homer is the name of Matt's father and son, Marge is the name of Matt's mother, and Lisa and Maggie are the names of his two sister. Bart is the only one not named after anyone in his family. The name Bart is acually a anagram of of "brat".

So the reason I wrote about Matt is because when I get older my dream is to make a show about a modern day family with actual real life problems so with all that said and done I leave with a quote from Matt Groening "The phenomenon has gone beyond my wildest dreams--and beyond my wildest nightmares."
