Troops in Iraq

by Ariel from USA

Who is your hero? What did he or she do? A hero is a person who shows bravery, love, and courage.

My heroes are the troops fighting in Iraq. The soldiers fight to make the world safer. It is hard for those who have to leave their families behind. The soldiers are brave and they are risking their lives. Each day U.S. soldiers die.

Twenty-two-year-old Tyanna Avery Felder has an interesting story. Tyanna lived in Connecticut. She was going to school to teach child education, but she left college and joined the Army. Tyanna died in a car accident in Iraq. The car was hit with a bomb. Her friends remember her as a strong, caring woman. She left behind a husband.

The troops are my heroes because if we didn’t have soldiers fighting, the world would not be safe. Soldiers live a tough life in Iraq. They are always on the move to find shelter. They live in makeshift camps and they do not have running water or beds. They try to sleep when they can. There are lots of weather changes like sandstorms, thunderstorms, and monsoons. I hope the brave soldiers come home soon. Sergeant Mitchell doesn’t know when he’ll be home. He says, “All I know is home is after Baghdad.”
