This ocean explorer became the world's most famous crusader for saving our seas! As a boy, Jacques Cousteau kept dreaming of being a fish, swimming freely and easily through the ocean. When he grew up, he made the dream come nearly true by co-inventing the aqualung (now called scuba).
At first Jacques used his invention to spy on enemies during World War II. After the war, he became one of the greatest ocean explorers and underwater moviemakers of all time. With his wife, two young sons, and his diving team, Jacques sailed around the world in his famous boat Calypso and filmed their spectacular adventures for all of us to enjoy. He and his scuba divers discovered bizarre sea creatures no human had seen before, and they filmed wild dolphins, sharks, and whales up close for the very first time.
Then Jacques began to notice that something was happening to the sea - something bad. The ocean bottom was littered with human garbage. Overfishing and pollution, Jacques realized, were taking a deadly toll. If this continued, the seas would die.
Jacques the explorer now also became Jacques the environmentalist, speaking out against ocean pollution and overfishing as well as filming stories about the endangered seas for all to see. So, take a deep breath and prepare to immerse yourself in the inspiring true story of one courageous man who brightened the deepest corners of Earth's oceans and changed the world forever in Jacques Cousteau: Saving Our Seas.
