by Ryan from Cedar Grove

An unknown writer said, “All heroes are courageous and willing to be there for someone in trouble.” A hero helps people that they do not know, more than they help themselves. A hero does great deeds to help others. Many heroes have qualities such as compassion and determination. Hans Christian Andersen, a hero in Denmark, was a great children’s author.

Hans Christian Andersen was born in Odense, Denmark and died in 1875. Hans Christian Andersen was very poor as a child. Hans became a weaver and a tailor to earn more money, and eventually a story teller. At the age of 14, he went to Copenhagen. In 1829 he began to publish his writings.

Most of the fairy tales that Hans wrote are still famous today. Some include The Ugly Duckling, The Tinderbox, Little Claus Big Claus, and The Little Mermaid. Hans Christian Andersen is still an inspiration to little children.

Hans Christian Andersen possessed three unique qualities of a hero. He was determined because he wrote over 156 fairy tales. The second is compassion, because he wrote so many fairy tales that showed he was very kind and he cared about all children. The third and final quality he possessed was helpful. Hans was helpful because he helped children enjoy reading.

In summary, a hero is someone who does very great deeds for anyone. A hero cares for those in need. Hans Christian Andersen, a writer, is a hero who is very famous in Denmark and around the world.
