Lucille Ball

by Shelly from Ventura

I am 17 years old and dream about being a film producer. I write poetry and scripts. Lucille Ball is my hero for her brilliance and determination in everything she does. Lucille Ball was the first female ever to own and operate her own Hollywood studio, and I am in love with the world of film. Lucy was my inspiration for my interest in the world of film.

After 12 months at the John Murry Anderson-Robert Milton Dramatics School, she was told that she was not talented enough to be an actress. I bet those people are biting their nails. She continued with her dream and got her first role as a slave girl in 1933 in the movie, Roman Scandals. She made her last movie Stone Pillow in 1985.

Project: HERO

WHAT: Comedian, Actress, Mother, Producer
WHEN: Major Accomplishments:

*1937 Stars in Stage Door with Katharine Hepburn

*1953 The birth of Little Ricky becomes a national media event
*1962 Buys Arnaz's share of Desilu Productions and becomes first woman to head a major studio

WHY: Lucy is more of a role model for me than a hero. Like me, she grew up without a biological father, and she had the same dreams I have. Although I am not much for the acting part, I love her comical vibes. I hope I can get to the point where I can come up with random things to make people laugh. She became the Queen of Comedy, and kept America laughing even when her home life fell apart.

The performing arts were her escape, as they are mine. We even have the same taste in men. She had a musical Cuban-American man, and mine is an American-Cuban. Mine was born here in America, but he holds to his Cuban values.

So, from her choice in men, to her path in her career, Lucille Ball is my role model and film hero. She made you laugh so hard you'd cry. She is an inspiration. I have even got her love for red hair; although hers is a bit more red than I want mine. I LOVE LUCY.
